Grand Schimmel Pianos
Schimmel’s Konzert instruments blend extensive experience and expertise with cutting-edge innovation. The result is an exceptional range of grand and upright pianos, “Made in Braunschweig,” designed for concert performance and ready to be put to the test. These remarkable instruments feature high-quality materials, extended maturation processes, the craftsmanship of master piano builders, and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques.
What distinguishes Schimmel’s instruments is an innovative design concept developed in 2000, which has been continuously refined and patented. This concept focuses on replicating the superior attributes of their largest concert grand piano in smaller models wherever possible. For example, the large-scale string design from tone 44 to 88 is utilized across various sizes. The soundboard design mirrors that of the largest concert grand, ensuring that every model in the Konzert series delivers the same exceptional sound quality as the flagship K 280 concert grand. Additionally, the action of the K 280 has been precisely adapted to the smaller grand pianos, while the vertical piano actions have been optimized to closely match the responsiveness of grand piano actions, enabling pianists to achieve nearly the same rapid repetition speed.
Fridolin Series
The journey into the world of Schimmel begins with a commitment to quality. In 1893, Fridolin Schimmel, inspired by his brother Wilhelm, established his own piano factory in the United States. During the intellectual collaboration between the brothers, Schimmel instruments were produced in the U.S. until the 1910s, alongside production in Germany, tailored to meet the American market’s needs with a focus on being solid, robust, and affordable. This motto was revisited nearly a century later with the introduction of an independent instrument series branded as “Fridolin.”
Today, Fridolin instruments are crafted in Guangzhou, China, in one of the world’s largest and most modern piano production facilities. While the designs are based on the “Wilhelm” series, careful modifications in material selection, production processes, and construction have been made without compromising their essential characteristics. The outcome is a range of solid, robust, and affordable instruments that offer an excellent price-performance ratio—quality from the very beginning.
